Bay Area Pet-Sitter and the Original Grumpy Faced Cat Need a Home!
Greetings!
I am looking for that unicorn; affordable low income housing in the bay area. I know it’s difficult but not impossible. Unfortunately, I have a very short time to find it.
I lived in Oakland for 20 years and always managed to find those spots. In 2014, I started getting SSDI, which provided me with some stability but severely cut my income, though I still do pet-sitting, organizing and creative work part time. I ended up downsizing from a houseshare I had largely furnished myself in Oakland, to a fully furnished house in Vallejo where I only had a room to put my things in and a little space in the kitchen. In Vallejo I was able to stretch my housing dollar substantially; a large bedroom with a big closet, all utilities including internet and cable, covered assigned parking and a washer dryer for $550. However, after nearly two years up here, most of the supplemental work I do remains in Oakland and the surrounding areas. Most of my belongings remain in storage in Alameda. My social circle is in the East Bay and San Francisco. I find when I am not stuck at home that gas and toll are eating up most of my income. I have to move, regardless. I really need to find a way to get closer to Oakland and/or cut costs dramatically.

About Me
I spend a lot of time with animals and doing creative things. a good day for me is hen I can do something to make someone else's life better. I do a lot of writing. I write fiction, songs (I also sing) and poetry. If you want to check some of that out here is my blog: Fragmeantz.
I have worked with victims of abuse and have a self esteem building philosophy that I hope to expand on called, "I'm the Empress Dammit!"
I paint, I am a printmaker, photographer and I create found object sculptures. I do crafty things like make my own soap and perfume. I'm not a partier but I love to dress up and go out with friends of all ages. I have a ridiculously wide range of interests and I know at least a little about a lot of things. Most people think I am pretty funny and very interesting.
Humor is my coping mechanism. I can find humor in most situations. More than one friend has suggested I could do stand up comedy. I definitely nurture an inner 12 year old. I am expressive and talkative. At the same time, I am often very quiet and I have also been told I'm a supportive friend and a good listener.
Overall, I am a pretty mellow housemate. I don't yell, pick fights or get passive aggressive. I tend to keep to myself but I'm a sociable person. I have eclectic interests so I can usually find common ground with just about anyone. I read/watch all kinds of things but I have a soft spot for SF/Fantasy. I have a nice variety of DVDs and books. I love Prog Rock. I want to learn to play guitar and I'd like to watch more anime and read more comics. I am not a gamer though it interests me. I'm always interested in "new to me" music or activities. I was an Art History / Anthropology major. I've done many things: Professional vocalist, art broker, barista, optician, legal work, veterinary assistant and more. I haven't travelled much but I want to go to Spain, Greece and Scotland.I make cracks a lot about moving to Scotland or that the love of my life is probably in Scotland. I'm only half joking.
I love to cook and I like to share what I make. I like all kinds of food. I love avocados, Thai and Indian food. I'm not much into sweets. I'm an omnivore but rarely eat meat and I am fine without it. I could move into a vegetarian household. Can't live without dairy though. I like to make the occasional cocktail. Mixology fascinates me. I don't smoke or do drugs. I'm 420 friendly but I don't partake. I am a bit allergic to smoke. It really messes up my singing voice.
Living with me, I think, is fairly easy. I'm pretty quiet and probably almost too polite when it comes to things like turning up my music or singing. I'm very open but also fairly private. When it comes to common areas, I clean up after myself promptly. I am not a door slammer or a bathroom hogger. I am an insomniac who tends to day sleep. I'm pretty quiet when I'm up all night and once I'm out, regular day noise doesn't phase me. Sometimes I am gone a lot so it's almost like not having a housemate.
For those who need to know. I am a queer cisgender female. Not seeing anyone right now. I'm LGBT and everything friendly. I'm a fairly non judgemental person unless you are a racist, bigot or are rabidly obsessed with pseudoscience. Spiritually, I consider myself an agnostic pagan. Politically, I am probably a liberal leaning progressive. I am a feminist and by that I mean an actual feminist, not a TERF. (see my stance on bigotry)I feel strongly about social/civil rights issues.
If I had the money I'd take belly dance and boxing lessons.
If I could afford to move farther away it would be somewhere along the northern California coast (I'm fond of Fort Bragg) or up near Seattle. Grey skies and rain don't depress me. And I would rather put on a sweater than sweat in the heat. I grew up in the central valley. I'm happiest when I can easily get to ocean and redwood trees! This is one of the things I love about the bay area.
